About Comitas Education

Comitas Education is a co-educational, independent SEN day school for pupils aged 5 to 19. We provide a warm, therapeutic environment where every learner is understood, supported and celebrated. Each pupil follows a personalised programme rooted in their strengths, interests and EHCP outcomes.

Who we are:

Dr Stephen Ladyman (Chairman)

Stephen brings over half a century of experience in the healthcare and education sector. He has held senior management roles in both the public and private sectors and is a former Health Minister with responsibilities that included the care of autistic people and people with learning disabilities. After leaving parliament he has chaired NHS organisations responsible for delivering community health services and is currently Chair of the National Autistic Society. Stephen acts as sits on the board of Comitas, ensuring compliance, as well as advising on the latest findings in ASD research.

Connor Chant (Head of Education)

Connor has been involved in SEN education for over a decade now. Having completed his degree in teaching he started in physical education, Connor then made the move to specialise in SEN education. Connor’s personable and knowledgeable approach to SEND education has seen him hold various roles of managerial positions having acted as an assistant headteacher as well as a deputy headteacher at specialist SEN schools. Connor is the driving force behind Comitas Education’s pursuit to give SEN students a more holistic education focusing on not just academic achievements but personal and health achievements.

Simon Westray MRICS (Head of real estate)

Simon has 19 years’ experience in real estate sector with 5 years specialising in the care sector. Simon is responsible for the property and management of Comitas Education. Ensuring Comitas Education’s students receive an excellent and enjoyable experience for is Simon’s key focus.

Oliver Clegg (Chief Operating Officer)

23 years of experience spanning construction and commercial management. In his role as COO, Oliver leads strategic decision-making processes, ensuring that all initiatives and financials decisions align with Comitas Education’s goals and objectives.

A Guided Learning Journey Built Around Each Pupil

At Comitas Education, every pupil follows a curriculum pathway tailored to their individual strengths, needs and EHCP outcomes.
Our three pathways provide the flexibility to meet pupils at their current stage of learning while supporting them to progress at their own pace.

Pathways are not fixed by age or key stage. Pupils may remain within a pathway or move between pathways over time, depending on their development and learning profile.

What We Provide for Our Pupils

We offer a comprehensive range of therapeutic and wellbeing services designed to support each pupil’s communication, emotional regulation and overall development. Through Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Play Therapy, we help pupils build essential skills for learning and daily life.

Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT)

Focused on expressive/receptive language, social communication and functional communication skills.

Occupational Therapy (OT)

Supporting sensory regulation, fine/gross motor development and access to learning and self-care routines.

Play Therapy and Emotional Wellbeing Support

Helping pupils process emotions, reduce anxiety, develop self-awareness and build positive relationships.

Zones of Regulation

Used school-wide to help pupils recognise and manage their emotional states through visual tools, language and strategies.
